George Eastman

George Eastman's Aeolian organ now totals 106 ranks and more than 6,000 pipes. While Eastman originally had 132 ranks, the organ has been operating for more than fifty years with fewer than half. When the fifty-room residence was being converted to a museum in the late 1940s, a fire in the north organ chamber destroyed many of the pipes inside. As a result, certain musical instrument sounds have not been heard for more than sixty years, including the oboe, violin, and flute, but now visitors will once again hear organ music with Eastman's original surround-sound design. Listen

These were two of Mr. George Eastman's favorite songs re-recorded live.
Both recordings were played on George Eastman's Aeolian organ by Joe Blackburn:

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

George Eastman heard "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" while in a subway in New York City and liked the song so much he began requesting his organist play it regularly at his home. The unofficial anthem of baseball is traditionally sung during the seventh inning stretch of a baseball game. The version heard here was composed by Albert Von Tilzer with words by Joe Norworth ca. 1908.
March Romaine

Gounod's "Marche Romaine" was one of Eastman's most frequently requested songs. He referred to it as his funeral march. Harold Gleason, Eastman's organist remembers-" The last time I played it for him was in the summer of 1930..." "When I finished he fairly shouted, "We'll give 'em hell when they carry me out the front door.". The march was not typical funeral music but it was played at his funeral like he requested.
