NEW: Photo Book Making in the Digital Age

Do you love photography and enjoy shooting with a digital camera? Looking for a tangible way to display and archive your most cherished images? Then this is the workshop for you. In today’s digital world, people are shooting more photographs than ever before, loading hard drives full of files but never making a single print. An actual print is great way to guarantee an image will be enjoyed after a digital system crashes or becomes obsolete. Don’t let yourself fall victim to the perils of digital; learn how to make digital prints in this fun and informative hands-on workshop.

Historic Process Specialist Nick Brandreth will help guide you through the process of creating your very own photo books using digital technology. Come develop techniques for fun, easy and interesting ways to display and store your photographs to help them stand the test of time.

This workshop will feature the following techniques:

  • Basic retouching techniques using Photoshop
  • Edit and sequencing of images
  • Digital printing workflow
  • Basic bookmaking techniques
  • Use of third party software/services to print books online


Important: Participants will be required to bring 40 digital files of their own. These can be digital capture or scanned images. Students are encouraged but not required to bring a laptop with Adobe Photoshop CS5 or CS6.

Audience: Limited to eight, this three-day workshop is suitable for the beginning digital photographer. While some familiarity with Photoshop would be helpful, no experience necessary for this workshop.

Tuition: $500/$475 members, plus $70 materials fee

Cancellation Policy: Withdrawal from the workshop 30 days before the session start date will receive a refund, minus a $100 processing fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations made less than 30 days before a workshop start date. If the workshop is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class will be fully refunded. George Eastman House is not responsible for airline ticket cancellation costs or fees. Eastman House may take and use images, still or video, for educational and promotional purposes.

Location and Scheduling: Daily sessions begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. Unless otherwise stated, the workshops are held at George Eastman House in Rochester, New York. Directions can be found here.  

Lodging: ?Lodging is not included in the cost of the workshop. Participants must make their own arrangements. The host hotel for workshops held at George Eastman House is the East Avenue Inn & Suites, This hotel is within walking distance of the museum. Room rates begin at $119 per night. You will be upgraded to a deluxe suite depending on availability. The East Avenue Inn & Suites also provides transportation to and from the airport.
