George Eastman House, in partnership with Rolling Stone magazine, presents a
tour of photographs and interactive media, Forty Years of Change: The
Rolling Stone Show. From its inception, Rolling Stone has used photographs
as visual essays and to illustrate its articles on the musical, cultural,
political, and social currents of our time. This exhibition brings those
photographs and the photographers who made them into the spotlight.
The Rolling Stone Show will be organized thematically to consider Rebellion,
Music, Idols, Domestic Affairs, Domestic Affairs special section on 9/11,
Style, Pundits and Sages, and Conflict. The exhibition will include as many
as 150 photographs by the magazine's major photographers including Baron
Wolman, Annie Leibovitz, Mark Seliger, Richard Avedon, Herb Ritts, Albert
Watson, Sabastão Salgado, and others. Text labels and media will tell the
story behind the photograhers and their subjects.
The free-standing design of the exhibition will transform existing gallery
space into a scene charged with energy. Large background murals of concert
scenes will further enhance the sense of excitement. A flat-panel TV will
flash thousands of images from Rolling Stone. Four sound focusers
representing each decade will allow visitors to listen to their favorite
tunes. Access to RS's magazine archive via computer is included. An
exhibition web site will include access to video and audio interviews and
links to The Rolling Stone magazine and its partners. Merchandise will be
available.
