Today at George Eastman House

June 19, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

National acts on roster for Eastman House's 15th annual Garden Vibes summer concert series

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Garden Vibes summer concert series at George Eastman House, marking its 15th year, boasts a variety of national acts. Concerts will take the stage in the Townson Terrace Garden in July and August. You can dance the night away and enjoy a picnic supper, while at the same time basking in George Eastman's historic garden and grounds, with an array of activities offered for kids.

Garden Vibes 2008

Thursday, July 10
Tcheka

An alluring hybrid of sun-kissed jazz and traditional African music from singer-guitarist Tcheka, a native of Cape Verde, and his trio. This Garden Vibes concert is presented in conjunction with the Eastman House summer exhibition series "Africas."

Thursday, July 24
The Shuffle Demons

Wild suits, berets, and goatees! Experience wild free-jazz improvisations and hip tunes with Toronto-based The Shuffle Demons, which play a version of acid jazz they call "Cyber-Jazz" or "Trip-Hop."

Thursday, Aug. 7
Campbell Brothers

Gospel music featuring electric steel guitar and vocals. Chuck, Phil, and Darick Campbell are an anointed group of accomplished guitarists who say their instruments are tuned to the key of the holy spirit. The Campbell Brothers, based in Rochester yet internationally celebrated, were raised in the "sacred steel" style, a rare music tradition rooted in the African-American Holiness-Pentecostal church.

Thursday, Aug. 21
The Boilermaker Jazz Band

The Boilermaker Jazz Band of Pittsburgh performs authentic hot jazz and swing. The group has a wide repertoire that can make an audience swing to a classic jazz standard, get sentimental over an old-time ballad, boogie to a hot jump tune, or get low-down with gritty blues. (Free swing-dance lessons offered before the concert!)

Concerts are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. All concerts will be held rain or shine. Bring blankets and/or chairs and your own picnic fixings, or purchase concessions on-site from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and Abbott's Frozen Custard. Please note, there will be no cash bar but you may bring your own beverages, plus a variety of non-alcoholic beverages will be sold.

Admission for each concert: $15 adults; $10 members; $5 youths (ages 13Ð18); and free to 12 and under, and includes George Eastman House admission and a variety of children's activities, including games and a bounce house. Advance tickets are not required; you can pay at the gate. Major support for Garden Vibes is provided by Preferred Care, with additional support from the Eastman House Council.
